Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is an infection that leads to inflammation of the conjunctiva. This is basically the white part of your eyes. It’s known as pink eye because the white part of your eyes will turn pink. The inner corner of the eyes may also be exposed due to inflammation.

What Causes Conjunctivitis?

Conjunctivitis can be caused by many different things. The list includes bacteria, viruses, irritants, and allergic reactions. Conjunctivitis is harmless most of the time. It may feel itchy, create a mild burning feeling, and release discharge for one to two weeks.

While it does go away on its own, there are several different things that you can do to treat it. First, you want to apply a compress on the affected eye. This will help soothe many of the symptoms that come with pink eye.

If you are having issues with itching and burning, head to your local pharmacy for lubricating drops. Tell the pharmacist that you want lubricating drops specifically for pink eye. The last thing you want to do is

You also need to keep your eyes clean. If you see discharge, use a warm towel to gently clean it out. You have to be careful about the towel touching your unaffected eye. Pink eye is notorious for being infectious and your other eye can also get infected.

It’s highly recommended that you practice proper hygiene. Don’t reuse the same towel or keep it lying around as others may get infected. You also want to make sure you wash your hands every time you finish treating the infected eye.
